We, the Pastor and members of Johnson Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ, thank God for his goodness and mercy through his son Jesus Christ for blessing us to reach another year of kingdom work for the Lord.

God gave the late Elder D. W. Johnson, the founder of this church a vison to build God a house. During this time, Elder Johnson was the pastor of Villa Ridge Church of God in Christ (the present Pryor Memorial Church of God in Christ) and he was inspired by God to call a revival in the village of Olmsted. The Lord gave him favor with the members of A.M.E. Methodist Church who gladly consented to the use of their building. Having followed the leading of the Lord, several souls were saved and baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Several saints including the members of Villa Ridge Church and the late Elder George Walker were instrumental in the birth of Johnson Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ. In fulfilling the vision, Elder Johnson sought the Lord for a place to build a house of prayer. He was able to purchase this land on which the church now stands. Many friends and neighbors assisted him in erecting this edifice. The late Elder Amos Woolfolk put the ceiling tiles in the auditorium.

The dedication of this church was the fourth Sunday in May of 1948. The devil has not closed the doors, until this date it is still standing. We are still praising God for his mighty acts, for the redemption of sin, and for that blessed hope we all can share until He comes again.
When this church was first built, it did not have indoor restroom. But under Elder D.W. Johnson ministry, new restroom was installed in the basement, and a gas heater was installed where the coal stove use to be. Elder Johnson ministered faithfully until he went home to be with the Lord.
There was a span before the next pastor came and the late Mother Liza Marshall and her children kept the church doors open until the Elder Roosevelt Jacob became the pastor January of 1971. During his ministry, the pulpit was carpeted. Due to his health, Elder Jacob gave the church up in the fall of 1973.
Elder Freddie Waddy and family came to Johnson Temple church of God in Christ in January of 1974, installation service was I. Cobb who superintendent at that time under Bishop E. Lenox was appointed Elder Waddy pastor of Johnson temple church of God in Christ. Under Elder Waddy ministry, the church name was changed to Johnson Memorial Temple church of god in Christ in horror of the decease founder, Supt. D.W. Johnson.
This church has had souls added and souls have left—either moved away or passed on. Yet we give God the glory and the praise for those that continue to say yes to his will and yes to his way. The bible says, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” I thank Jesus for his word and for standing on his word. When the enemies are against you, you can still stand. When you are broke, the Lord will provide. Whatever the problems you have , God can solve them. I can go to Jesus who never leave you nor forsake you. He said for upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I thank God for being a God in the midst of whatever I am going through! As you can see the Lord has blessed here.
For the church stands for something, the church that Jesus is building will never cease, He said, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it, “His church is not synonymous with Christendom, it is in Christendom in the same way in which it is in the world, in it but not of it, Christendom is made up of those who profess to be Christians but they know not Christ as a personal Savior. (Matt. &:21-23; II Tim. 3:5; and Titus 1:16). Only blood washed, born again Sprit baptized believers constitute the church that Jesus is building. Not only for Johnson Memorial Temple church of God in Christ, but for every church that is in the world. For God would that all men be saved! It would be like a city that sat on the hill that cannot be hid or like a beacon light for the airplane that comes in for a safe landing or like a lighthouse for the ship that comes in the dock. We can be that light that the world can know Jesus lives because He is alive in us.
Romans 12:1 & 2 says, “I Beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not confronted to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Let us continue to lift Him up, magnify Him, and praise His holy name.” This is only our reasonable service. We thank God for the Spiritual blessing and Natural blessings. God has blessed under Waddy’s ministry. The steps have been widened leading to the basement, heating and air condition unit has been installed and rest rooms have been put in on the upper level. God gave Pastor Waddy a vision to build and that vision has now become a reality. The new addition added in 1988 is now complete.
We thank God for his leading. For his word says in Prov. 3:6, “I can do all things thru Christ which strengthen me.” Now as you can see the results are a choir stand, offices, kitchen upstairs, new carpeting, a sidewalk around the church, a fellowship hall, and a steeple on the top of church.
This church has stood firmly for the Doctrine of holiness. Persecution has not crushed it, power has not beaten it nor has time abated the church’s force. May this church stand; in years to come as it has stood a place where souls can come to the Lord.
